The fort was built by Kempe Gowda and later expanded by Tippu Sultan. Within its walls is the well preserved Ganapathi temple of sixteenth century.
The Palace was built in 1887 by Wodeyar king on the four hundred acre space. This palace was built in the Tudor style, complete with Gothic, foiled windows, battlements and a turret resembling the Daria Daulat Palace in Srirangapatanam, this palace is constructed mostly of wood and is famous for its carving and paintings.
In the year June 2005 , Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar decided to open the palace to the public to meet its twenty lakh annual upkeep costs. The main attractions are the gallery which consists of nearly thousand historical photos, including of Maharajas, Viceroys and other famous personalities inside and exquisite carvings and paintings.

Tipu’s Palace built in 1791. This beautiful palace with two-storeyed ornate wooden structure with exquisitely carved pillars, arches and balconies was one of Tipu’s favorite summer retreats.
