Malampuzha in Palakkad

MALAMPUZHA IN PALAKKAD DISTRICT, KERALA

 There are many legends  associated with the origin name of Palakkad.  According to  legends the word Palakkad is derived from two words Pala means “barren land” and  kadu means  “Jungle” hence the combined meaning of theWord is  “Pala trees”.  The Palakkad district is one of the top tourist destinations in Kerala and enchanted the tourists  for its various attractions of forests, rivers, mountains, hillocks, dams etc.

 Among them  the  beautiful  Malampuzha  dam is one of the tourist spots in Palakkad.

 Malampuzha dam is 6066 ft.  masonry structure built across Malampuzha,Malampuzha is a tributary of Bharathapuzha,  with a net work of canal systems. Malampuzha  Garden  is also known as Vrindhavan of Gardens.

 By Plane :  nearest airport is Coimbatore about 55kms away and by taxi it  is

about Rs. 1000/-.  The other nearest airport is Cochin international airport

about 160 kms away.  The taxi fare from here is about Rs. 3000/-.  Cochin airport

is well connected with all major cities in India and aborad.

 By Train :  Nearest railway station is Palakkad junction which is about 5kms away.
