Agnitheertham is about 100 meters away from the temple, where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva, to absolve himself from the killing Ravana.
The sea here is very calm and quite and this is the only place where one could swim in the sea day and night. Frolic of dolphins in the water is an enjoyable sight. It’s a pleasant experience to drive along the Dhanushkodi road. The backwater edged with waving bulrushes and the clear sea surrounds the road.
Stretches of virtually untouched beach sparkle in the fading light and it is from here that you get a bright view of the sunset. A few transient settlements of fisherman can be seen in the fishing season towards the end of the road. Rameshwaram beach had diverse species of marine life, which ranges from life-algae, crabs, sponges, starfish, sea cucumber and the sea sow etc
The nearest airport is Madurai its about 167 kms away. The airport connects Tamilnadu with major Indian cities and towns thus operates regular Indian Airlines.
Rameshwaram is connected by rail directly to Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Coimbatore.
